I believe that every student has a passion for expression through literature and writing. I believe my role, as a teacher is to ignite the individual interests of language arts in each of my students, which will motivate them to learn and develop both cognitively and emotionally. I believe, that as a teacher, I must guide each individual through his or her own educational journey rather than dictate a strict premeditated course. The major goal of education is to set up solid foundations for students to be successful in all aspects of life, personally and professionally.
I want my classroom community to be a safe place where all of my students can be themselves and express their culture and heritage without ridicule. I want students to learn from the diversity within the classroom.
I will push students to find their own voice in writing. I will help them find their identity by exposing them to things that interest them and that make them think critically. I will ensure my classroom is a safe place for students to explore knowledge. I will also make sure that it is a safe place for students to be themselves. I will teach in a manner that is interesting and engaging. I will not allow students to bully each other. Every ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, and ability will be welcome in the classroom community. Acceptance will be the guiding principle. Every student will feel a sense of belonging. No child will feel stupid or unable in my class. I will work hard everyday to ensure that each student is reaching his or her full potential. Although potential looks different in every student, I will work my hardest to guarantee that it is recognized and reached.
